Airtel for enhanced digital transactions

Airtel Malawi plc has urged its customers to embrace digital payments using its ‘My Airtel App’, to avoid physical contact and cash handling when paying bills and purchasing goods.

This came out on Wednesday when the company launched a campaign dubbed Covid-Ups which provides a quick and entertaining twist to Covid-19 social responsibility messaging.

The campaign offers a series of animated characters that represent different aspects of people’s behaviour in response to the safety measures, and how such characters can all be avoided by using the mobile application.

Airtel Malawi Managing Director, Charles Kamoto, said the campaign is about injecting some light-hearted relief into its #BeSmartBeSafe messaging.

“We want to demonstrate the full functionality of the My Airtel App and how it can fulfill a wide range of needs during the current crisis, from making digital payments to staying entertained and hosting virtual gatherings during the pandemic,” Kamoto said.

The company also rolled out the bonus airtime incentive called Katswiri Community Champion.

Under the initiative, customers that top up any amount for friends and family using Airtel Money or make a purchase using a debit or credit card via the My Airtel App will earn a 4 percent extra airtime.
