Airtel hands over school block

Airtel Malawi on Friday handed over a school block and 103 double-seat desks worth K17 million to one of its adopted schools, Salima Primary in Salima.

Airtel has been constructing and rehabilitating the school’s infrastructure since five years ago

During the ceremony, Airtel Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Norah Chirwa, said the company will continue to support the school as it is under their key education projects.

“Last year alone, we also handed over another school block of two classrooms and this is an going project. This is what we will continue to do for more learners to have appropriate learning infrastructure, this year,” she said.

Salima District Education Manager Christopher Kumikundi commended Airtel’s gesture. He said the project is relieving the population of pupils who are learning outside.

“This is the biggest school in the district with over 2,000 learners and it has challenges of school infrastructure. I am excited that Airtel Malawi is coming to our rescue. The opening of classrooms will ease the congestion so that we improve the teaching process,” he said.

He said this far, about 12 streams of classes with approximately 1,000 learners are still learning under the trees.
