Mobile phone service provider, Airtel, has invested K15.2 billion into a project that seeks to improve quality for its voice and internet services in Malawi.
The upgrade exercise which rolls out next month is expected to end in July this year.
Airtel Malawi Networks Director, Hussein Versi, said all sites that are found across the country will be modernised through the installation of new equipment to boost signals to enhance voice and internet quality and reliability.
“We will additionally deploy new 3G U-900 bands to boost data coverage and quality,” Versi said.
According to Versi, the upgrade will enable Airtel subscribers to experience improved speed, quality connectivity and stable voice and internet services in the short medium term.
“In the long term, the network modernisation exercise prepares Airtel to handle the future and growing demands of its customers,” he said.
While saying Airtel is in Malawi to invest and grow, Versi said the current incidences of customers experiencing indoor and outdoor coverage gaps will be resolved by the end of the network overhaul.
During the modernisation period, Airtel customers will be informed on the transition schedules which, according the company, will be done in the night to mitigate service interruptions.
