ICT and mobile phone services provider Airtel Malawi has pledged to continue supporting needy students to complete their education as part of its contribution to the country’s education sector.

Airtel Malawi Assistant Manager for Corporate Social Responsibility Veronica Ngulube said this when the company, in partnership with Tools to School Project, donated school fees, bicycles, backpacks and notebooks to students at Chikonde CDSS in Neno on Wednesday.

Ngulube said Airtel Malawi is passionate about education and that, by supporting needy students, it is contributing towards sustainable national development.

“We selected 10 schools across the country where students travel long distances to go to school and also top performing students that have financial constraints are being supported with fees,” Ngulube said.

Tools to School Project Manager Stewart Kambewa said the organisation is committed to supporting students in rural areas by providing resources such as school fees and bicycles.

One of the beneficiaries, who is a top performing student, Thokozani M’mangisa said she was grateful to Airtel, as the company has been paying her school fees since 2021.

“I have also received a backpack and some notebooks and the school has benefitted from five bicycles to make sure students who live far off come to school on time,” said Thokozani, who is in form 3.

Chikonde CDSS Head teacher Plaston Zingwangwa said the bicycles will ease transportation challenges the students have been facing and called for more companies to support other needy students at the school.
