Airtel unveils K100 million Zilimwaife campaign

Airtel Malawi plc on Wednesday launched a K100 million Zilimwaife campaign aimed at celebrating individuals making a difference to the society using technology.

Airtel Malawi Managing Director Charles Kamoto said the campaign will run until December 31.


“We are more interested in the stories that have technology in it. We are looking for Malawians that are selfless and do the initiatives for the benefit of others more than themselves and for us, this is something worth promoting as a company,” Kamoto said.

According to Kamoto, through the initiative, Airtel Malawi wants to celebrate the big things that Malawians are doing for their communities.

During the launch in Lilongwe, Airtel awarded Temwani Chilenga and Dumisani Kaliati with K13 million and K10 million, respectively.


Kaliati is a drone entrepreneur and the owner of MicroMek, a Malawian-based company that constructs low-cost drones.

He used the drones in Kasungu to monitor the environment and deliver medical supplies in hard-to-reach areas.

Chilenga, a young female primary school teacher in Lilongwe, has helped thousands of homeless and orphaned children access education by providing them with basic necessities.

She started the programme after noting that some homeless students in her classroom lacked basic requirements like school uniforms and shoes, and were attending classes on an empty stomach.

“I started supporting them with the little I was getting and I am happy that Airtel has given me this award and the money,” Chilenga said.

She said she will use the money to start a business to make the initiative sustainable.
