AKA jets in today ahead of Mubas Social Weekend

Renowned South African rapper AKA, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, arrives in the country today to headline Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) Social Weekend in Blantyre Saturday night.

The event will take place at Mubas Ground.

Nyasa Music Group has partnered Mubas Entercom to bring AKA to the social weekend, where he is set to share the stage with Gemini Major, Kell Kay, Charisma, Spyral, Don Tarz and Afana Ceez with DJ Nathan Tunes manning the decks.

This is not the first time for AKA to perform in the country as he has had stints at Blantyre Sports Club and Kamuzu Stadium in 2019, when he also came courtesy of Nyasa Music Group.

The singer, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur gained significance after releasing his single ‘Victory Lap’ which was released from his debut studio album, Altar Ego, in 2011.

Nyasa Music Group Director James Makunje said Thursday that they decided to give students a treat during the social weekend hence inviting AKA.

“Social weekends have been growing for years with several activities but have never had international artists. We thought we should give people a treat, hence bringing AKA,” Makunje said.

He said, despite this being a social weekend, the event was open to people from outside and that it was time for them to have a good time.

“The entry fee is fair; advance tickets can be accessed at K5,000 whereas, on the door, it is K7,000. We have a beautiful line-up and its value for money,” Makunje said.

Having been engaged in top activities in the past years including awards, Makunje said they were still working on bigger projects.

“People should just watch the space; we have diverse activities and all these are aimed at growing the creative industry. We will soon also be doing something for the film industry,” Makunje said.

Nyasa Music Group once brought into the country South African acts such as Somizi, Zahara, Heavy K and Master KG.
