Albino kidnapper gets 21 years
The Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate Court sitting in Mangochi has convicted a 49-year-old man and sentenced him to 21 years in jail with hard labour for kidnapping a boy with albinism.
Mangochi Police spokesperson, Roderick Maida, said Samson Allison, an uncle to the victim, was arrested following a kidnaping incident which occurred last week.
State prosecutor Dickens Mwambazi told the court that, on that material day, while at Tumbwe Village, Traditional Authority Namavi in Mangochi District, Allison, with an accomplice identified as 44-year-old Jafali Ligomeka ,connived to kidnap and sell four-year-old Amadu Wasi, who is a person living with albinism.
According to court records, the two broke into the house, overpowered the boy’s grandfather and kidnapped the boy and fled the scene. The two were later arrested after they failed to make a sale.
When taking plea, the convict pleaded guilty, while his accomplice denied the charge.
In his submission, Mwambazi asked the court for stiff penalty, saying the convict had the intention of killing the boy; hence, he deserved stiff punishment to deter others.
Senior Resident Magistrate Chamdimba Nkhata sentenced Allison to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour, while his accomplice has been remanded at the prison pending trial.
Allison and Ligomeka are from Tumbwe Village, Traditional Authority Namavi, Mangochi District.
