Albino’s body exhumed, leg amputated
Unknown people in Ntchisi have exhumed a body of a woman with albinism and amputated its leg.
The incident, according to Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer Gladson M’bumpha, happened on Monday at Zambala Village in Traditional Authority Nthondo in the district.
“On Monday, as Ronald Yosefe was going to his garden which is near a graveyard, he was surprised to see that a grave in which the woman was buried had been tampered with. He reported the matter to his village headman who called all his subordinates to witness the abomination. They later reported the matter to police and we visited the crime scene,” M’bumpha said.
He added that when the police examined the grave, they found the coffin broken and the body with the left leg only.
“We reburied the body after recording statements at the crime scene and we have launched an inquiry into the matter in order to trace and arrest the culprits,” he said.
Malawi is currently one of the African countries where people with albinism are facing abuse resulting from their killings, abductions and having their graves exhumed.
