Alfred Msadala goes virtual with ‘Malangano’ book launch
Veteran author Alfred Msadala has decided to go virtual with the launch of his latest book Malangano due to Covid-19.
The Pen Malawi President, who is also a renowned poet, had planned to launch the book at Soche Anglican Amphitheatre in Blantyre on Saturday.
But, due to the pandemic, which continues to claims lots of lives globally and a rise of cases and deaths in the country, Msadala has decided to embrace technology by going virtual with the launch.
He said yesterday that he would have loved to have a big launch with people in attendance as he has done with his other book launches but he could not go ahead.
“I would say I am not having the physical launch but I have resolved to hold a virtual launch. The preparations are in the process and this will take place on the same day on Saturday because it still remains as the day of the issue,” Msadala said.
He said people will be advised of the link of the virtual launch in due course.
“For purposes of promotion, orders are now being received for deliveries that will commence on Saturday. The book is going at K5,000. However for the launch mode, people are at liberty to purchase it at any price above the mark, this is a gesture of support,” Msadala said.
Msadala said Malangano is a book based on fate.
“Molly and Henry recognised one another after a gap of eight years. They were childhood friends. Molly is a secondary school learner but Henry is a tramp since he is a person with mental disability. The new relationship ensues and the end is tragic,” he said.
Msadala said he was looking forward to the best during the virtual launch on Saturday.
“Despite the change to virtual, I am looking forward to the best in terms of support. It has been an interesting journey writing this novel and I am happy to finally give it to the world,” Msadala said.
Some of the other books that the former Book Publishers Association of Malawi president has authored include Reminiscence, One, Steve Chimombo, Destined for Great Things, We Lost track of Ausi, Ten Tidal Waves, A Ragged Portfolio of My Portrait and War Drums are Beating.
Msadala has also edited Neighbour’s Wife and Other Stories, Sprouts of Dowa Hills as well as co-edited with Zondiwe Mbano Mangadzi was Here.
