All eyes on our Agnes Mtimaukanena

Agnes Mtimaukanena-Mwando faces a defining moment when she takes on Zambian, Loleta Muzeya, in a World Boxing Council Silver-medal fight in Harare, Zimbabwe Friday night.

The former World Boxing Forum (WBF) middleweight is eyeing revenge having lost to Muzeya at Government Complex in Lusaka, Zambia in 2013.

Mtimaukanena’s husband, Brian, speaking from Harare, said the former WBF champion was set to bring the title home.

“She has had one of the best preparations, and there is no doubt that Agnes will win the belt. She worked with good sparring partners to help her with speed and endurance,” he said.

Muzeya has a perfect record of nine straight home wins. She has fought away from home once when she defeated Malawian, Anisha Basheer, at Umodzi Conference Centre in Lilongwe.

Mtimaukanena, 23, has seven wins, two defeats and a draw.

The Malawian won the WBF middleweight title when she defeated Kenyan, Susan Andeso, at Nankhaka Ground in 2012 on a unanimous points’ decision.

Meanwhile, Mtimaukanena’s official sponsor, Ori Meat Products, issued a statement wishing her well in the fight.

“Agnes, the Ori Meat Products team is standing behind you 100 percent. Come home a world champ,” wrote Ori official, Oresti Yiannakis.
