All roads lead to Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima this weekend as the Impakt Events Central Region Beach Soccer League (CRBSL) rolls to life on Saturday.
The committee’s General Secretary, Allie Mwachande, said 14 teams had confirmed participation in the league.
Impakt Events, organisers of Sand Festival, will host the competition in conjunction with the committee.
Impakt Events have pumped in K500, 000 towards the league.
Mwachande hailed Impakt Events for sponsoring the league.
“We are really happy because the sponsorship has eased our stress. We are looking for more partners so that we can develop the sport,” Mwachande said.
Impakt Events Chief Executive Officer, Lucius Banda, said they partnered the league because beach soccer is a growing sport in the world.
“Beach soccer has been part of our events during the Sand Festival. As Impakt Events, we believe that the game can only progress if we invest more,” said Banda while pledging continued support.
Beach Soccer was introduced in 2007 in the country but the sport had been struggling for sponsorship.
Malawi National Beach Soccer Team were runners-up during last year’s Cosafa Beach Cup in Seychelles.
