All set for College b-ball semis

Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) has said it has finalised preparations for this afternoon’s semifinal stage of the K30 million National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Mo626 College Basketball Championships.
Eight teams are scheduled to lock horns in both the ladies’ and men’s categories at the African Bible College Macon Gym in Lilongwe as they aim at qualifying for the finals.
The ladies’ category has ABC, Chanco, NRC and Bunda while MCA Lilongwe, ABC, Poly and MCA Blantyre are in the men’s section.
Basmal Vice General Secretary, Banthali Banda, said winners of today’s games will proceed to tomorrow’s finals, with the losers scheduled to compete in third-place play-offs.
“We are excited to have come this far with this competition. We have the future of the game in our hands through the college players. All competing teams are fully prepared to give out their best,” Banda said.
The atmosphere surrounding the games becomes even more exciting with vibes created by supporters of competing teams.
Sponsors NBM have deliberately been encouraging teams to bring supporters to all their matches as a way of ensuring that the tournament is full of life.
The bank has been rewarding the best supporters with K100,000 cheques for ‘making the best noise’ in cheering their teams.
The latest to get rewarded for their vibes were Poly and MCA supporters for the respective roles they played in cheering their teams all the way to the semifinals.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony on Tuesday, NBM Products Promotion Executive, Muti Chibwana, said the bank decided to award the cheer teams to add colour and pomp to the competition.
“We are excited that you are cheering your teams very well, not just on the basketball court but also on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Our aim is to make this competition full of life and vibes so that we can revive the game,” Chibwana said in her address to the cheering supporters.
