All set for domestic investment forum

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) has said all is set for the virtual domestic investment forum expected to take place from Wednesday.
MITC Investment Promotion Manager Modie Chanza said the forum will feature financiers who will present and exhibit financing products and services for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
She said this will allow businesses to explore available financing opportunities and, where possible, be linked to the financiers.
“We expect at least 70 local investors, some of which will pitch their projects for financing or joint ventures. The forum will also be attended by Malawi-diaspora investors who will explore available investment opportunities.
“Through the forum, we would like to generate investment leads that will contribute to economic transformation of our country and create employment opportunities,” Chanza said.
MITC Chairperson Karl Chokotho said, through the forum, the centre would be publicising investment opportunities, providing trading opportunities for local producers and create awareness on financing opportunities and project preparation which is one of the major challenges to get foreign direct investors or local equity partners.
“We would link investors to financing sources and facilitating partnerships. MITC doesn’t look at just FDIs but also focuses on local investment. However, local investors don’t always know about existing opportunities and existing avenues of finance,” Chokotho said.
President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to grace the event.
Currently, prospective participants are asked to register via the MITC website.
