All set for Malawi Open
After a long wait, the country’s biggest golf tournament, the Malawi Open, is back this weekend with golfers set to swing it out at Lilongwe Golf Club from Saturday.
Golfers would, during the three-day event, seek to dethrone Adam Sailesi who swung to glory last year.
This year’s tournament is timely since it comes just a week before eight Malawian golfers take part in Zone VI Golf Tournament in Swaziland.
Golf Union of Malawi Vice- President, Hudson Kantwanje, said the Malawi Open would provide a good platform for the players to finalise their preparations before leaving for Swaziland on Monday.
“We have not been doing well in the competition over the years, but this time around, we want to finish in the top-three to, at least, get a medal,” he said.
TNM has been sponsoring the Malawi Open since 2007 and the company’s Chief Commercial Officer, Daniel Makata, said the financial support underlines their commitment towards golf.
“The Malawi Open has been one of the successful tournaments that have helped in the development of golf in the country. [This is ]demonstrated by the level of competition that our golfers have shown on the greens locally and internationally through participation in the international zone tournaments for the past years,” he said.
