Balaka-based musical group Alleluya Band returns home from their annual Italy tour Thursday.
Former band leader Coss Chiwalo, who is also one of the oldest members of the group, said Tuesday they had held over 40 shows since they left the country in June 2019.
“It has been an exciting tour with so many lessons learnt. We have also shared a lot, in terms of what Malawi is made of. We have held about 42 shows,” Chiwalo said.
He said the band was expected to leave Italy Tuesday and arrive in the country Thursday,” Chiwalo said.
Apart from raising funds for different projects at Andiamo in Balaka, Chiwalo said annual tours had accorded them an opportunity to perform to different audiences and network with artists in Italy.
“The experience is different every year,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chiwalo has said that they would hold a free-of-charge show on Friday which would feature, among other activities, music, dance, games and acrobatics.
During the free event, they would share the stage with a group from Italy, Spazio Circo Bergamo, which has also been in the country for some time and is also returning to their home.
“Spazio Circo is a youthful group we normally perform with in Italy. They have been to Malawi for some time and they are going back on 31st August 2019. So, instead of just meeting, welcoming each other and then bidding farewell, we thought of holding a free-of-charge show. It is a way of welcoming each other and bidding farewell,” Chiwalo said.
