Balaka-based group Alleluya Band has said people should look out for more new songs this year as many of its artists will be going into the studio.

Alleluya Band continues to entertain people with their energetic live performances but some quarters have noted that they are stagnant when it comes to releasing new songs.

The group has relied heavily on songs which were released in the past by several other artists who were in the band including veteran Paul Banda.

But Alleluya Band’s former band leader Coss Chiwalo said the group will come out with new songs this year.

“The problem we have had is that Alleluya Band has more artists and so what we do is that we give each other chances every year and that puts the other artists on a long break. But now we have agreed that we should no longer use this system which is denying people fresh songs,” said the ‘Afisi Aku Ntcheu,’ and ‘Makolo,’ creator.

Chiwalo revealed that he will be going into the studio this year to work on new songs and that Alleluya Band leader Paul Subiri is also in the studio working on new songs.

“It’s not only me and Paul Subiri who are working on new songs, we also have Sir Paul Banda who is set to release an album as well as a DVD. Again we also have twins Mayamiko and Madalitso Taferakaso who are ready with their album so there is a lot more new stuff,” said Chiwalo, who has several albums to his credit.

However, despite having several albums to his credit, he has not released new albums in recent years.

Paul said people should get ready to sample his DVD later this year including an album.

“I have been talking about a new album the past years but I can assure people that this year new songs will come out,” said the singer and guitarist.

A vegetarian since 1994, the old-timer, hailed people for their support saying it keeps him and Alleluya Band moving forward as well as work hard.

“The country is facing economic problems at the moment but people are always there to support us during our shows. I should say it here that without people’s support we are nothing,” said Paul
