Balaka-based group Alleluya Band will leave for their annual Italy performances on June 7 and will come back home on August 24.
Member of the group Coss Chiwalo confirmed of the trip Wednesday saying this year, the group will go as far as Jerusalem where they will celebrate 40 years the group’s existence.
Jerusalem is a city located on a plateau in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean sea and the Dead Sea.
It is one of the oldest cities in the world and is considered a holy city in the three major Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Alleluya Band has been having performances in Italy for years where among others, they raise funds for various projects.
“We are ready and looking forward to the trip once again. Apart from raising funds for different projects, the Italy trip also gives us a chance to market the country,” Chiwalo said.
This will be Chiwalo’s 13th trip to Italy.
Alleluya Band started in 1978 and was established by Father Mario Pacific.
Although not that popular as it was in the past years, the band has used music to disseminate different messages.
Their music is a mix of reggae and African rhumba rhythms fused with different traditional dances.
The group has also been to the World Youth Day in Rome in 2000, to Cologne, Germany in 2005, to Sydney in 2008 and Madrid in Spain in 2011.
Some of the big names that have had stints with Alleluya Band include Paul and Lucius Banda and Charles Sinetre.
