Alliance One Tobacco has disclosed that it has registered many success stories in its tree-planting programme which was launched three years ago.
The company’s managing director; Hugh Saunders, says from 2011, the company has planted a total of over 25 million trees on 9,765 hectares with more than 85 percent survival rate.He said this year alone, the company has planted over seven million trees.
In addition, Saunders said Alliance One has also planted 79,092 bamboos on 254 hectares at its farms and through smallholder farmers. Saunders further appealed to all tobacco farmers and companies, to join reforestation efforts to fight effects of climate change.
