Amaryllis commits to supporting arts

To host Daliso

WAHEED—Art gives us joy

Amaryllis Hotel General Manager Ramy Waheed has described art as vital in society and has since promised to uplift it and give it a voice with several plans lined up.

Waheed said this over the weekend when he patronised the launch of Alinafe Chiwanda popularly known as Mzati album launch and Deft Poetry Festival at Jacaranda Cultural Centre and Deft Poetry Festival at Amaryllis in Blantyre respectively.

The hotel is also expected to host a stand-up comedy show on Sunday featuring the country’s United Kingdom-based comedian Daliso Chaponda and Kenyan-born British stand-up comedian Imran Yusuf.

“Art gives us joy and it brings people together and builds bridges between cultures. We strongly believe that the success of our communities and country as a whole is the success of Amaryllis Hotel too. We want to uplift and give voice to artists in all the disciplines,” he said.

On the Daliso show, Waheed said it was another way of showing their support to the creative sector.

“Amaryllis Hotel wants to ensure that we give Daliso a warm experience and we are excited with the event and we call upon people to come,” he said.

Meanwhile, Daliso has said he is excited to perform in the country.

“Essentially, when I came to Malawi earlier this year and did the shows in Lilongwe, it was so successful and so fine and I said I need to come and do it more, do it few times a year,” the once British Got Talent finalist, said.

“So, I realised if I want to come more frequently, I need to enlist other funny comedians and so, I enlisted Salvado from Uganda, who has been in Malawi before and Imran Yusuf, who is performing in Malawi for the first time,” Daliso said.

Daliso will share the stage with Salvado and Yusuf at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on August 13.
