WOKOMA-ATANI—The truth is that there is no shortcut to success

The United States (US) Government has pledged continued support to ensure that Malawi improves education standards.

Douglas Johnston, the US Public Affairs Officer, said this during the inauguration ceremony of American Shelf at Kamuzu College of Nursing, Blantyre campus.

Douglas described the shelf as a foundation stone for continued support and partnership between the US Embassy in Malawi and the college.

“As the United States, we understand that it is our responsibility to help Malawi in its aspirations of providing quality education to its citizens. The American shelf here is just a foundation stone for a fully-fledged American corner in the near future,” he said.

Johnston said nursing was a booming field which needs most recent and state of-the-art books.

In his remarks, University of Malawi Registrar, Benedicto Wokomaatani Malunga, said the support was timely as KCN was about to become part of the yet-to-be established Kamuzu University of Health Sciences.

He assured the embassy that the school would take care of the books received.

“If there is a school which knows how to take care of its resources it is KCN. The school’s librarian is a doctor and that says a lot of the importance the school places on the management of its resources,” he said.
