Female boxer Anisha Basheel is expected to return in the ring on October 20 when she vies for the Commonwealth Women Championship title against Sarah Achieng of Kenya at Charter Hotel in Nairobi.

Basheel is also expected to face Mbabi Brigitte in the Democratic Republic of Congo on November 20 in a non-title fight.

The Malawi Defence Force boxer, having been idle since 2019 when she last fought, was keeping her fingers crossed that both bouts should take place.

“It is really frustrating that three fights did not happen. It is my hope that, this time, the fights will happen. I last fought on 20 July 2019 and I am longing to get back in the ring,” she said.

Basheel has eight straight knockout wins and six defeats whereas Achieng, who she will fight against for the Light welterweight Commonwealth Championship, has 13 wins including seven knockouts and two defeats.

Achieng last fought in March 2019 when she knocked out Joice Awino in the sixth round.
