WANTS TO IMPROVE HER RECORD—Basheel (right)

Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer Anisha Basheel says she is longing for more fights to improve her record.

Basheel was speaking for the first time after losing an International Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight title fight to champion Estelle Mosley at Salle Wagram in Paris, France, last month.

“My record is not as good as I wanted it to be. There were some fights I did not do well in because of inadequate preparations but some were really tough.

“One thing which is quite obvious is that it is difficult to win on points when you fight away from home. In France, the fight was tough but I would have done better if I had prepared thoroughly. Even my coaches felt that I fought well,” she said.

Basheel said she will work hard to win her next fights to decorate her record.

Following the loss, Basheel, 25, saw her record drop to 11 wins including 10 knockout victories and nine defeats whereas Mosley, 30, improved her record to 10 wins including eight knockouts.

Basheel won the African Boxing Union (ABU) title after knocking out Consolata Musanga on December 2 2017 in Kenya before winning the Commonwealth Female belt on June 15 2018, when she knocked out Sam SJ Smith in the United Kingdom.

In 2019, she failed to defend the Commonwealth belt when she lost to Chantelle Cameron on July 20.
