Anisha Basheer steps up training
Female boxer, Anisha Basheer, has started camp training in Blantyre ahead of her African Boxing Union (ABU) welterweight contest against an unnamed Kenyan opponent.
“I have started my preparations earlier because my stable wants me to be in shape before the contest. This is the fight of my life. I want to do well,” she said.
The Lilongwe-based boxer has a poor record and needs to improve her performance to win the belt.
Basheer lost five fights in arrow before winning three in a row to start improving her record.
Basheer said she was sparring with male boxers.
“I learn a lot when I spar with the likes of Israel Kam’mwamba and Limbani Masamba. I believe that in a month or so, I will be in top form,” she said.
Meanwhile, Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board President, Lonzoe ‘Defector ’ Zimba, has drummed up support for Basheer.
“The reputation of the nation will be at stake, so we need stakeholders to support her so that she can win,” he said.
