Africa Boxing Union (Abu) Super Lightweight champion, Anisha Bashir, is in line for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International belt after being tipped to face Argentinean boxer Marisa Nunez.

Bashir is ranked sixth on WBC rankings in the super lightweight category whereas her potential opponent is ranked 13th.

Delta Force Boxing Academy trainer, Clyde Musonda, said negotiations with his partner and Bashir’s Manager, Craig Rousseau of No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions, were underway.

“We have those plans but, currently, we are discussing the purse money [contractual fee] as well as with our rival camp. Once we are done with my partner Craig, I will be able to give you our final stand,” he said.

Sources indicate that Bashir’s management team wants to stage the fight in Malawi in June. Musonda could neither confirm nor deny.

“We will give you a proper update once we are through with this process,” he said.

Bashir rose to fame after knocking out Kenyan boxer, Consolata Masunga, in the ninth-round at Carnivore Gardens in Nairobi, Kenya on December 2 to lift the Abu crown.

She has also been nominated for the Sports Woman of the Year category for the inaugural Malawi Sport Awards to be held at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe Friday.
