Anisha Bashir off to Kenya
Local female pugilist, Anisha Bashir, flew out to Kenya Wednesday ahead of her Africa Boxing Union (ABU) super lightweight title bout against Consulata Masunga at Carnivore Gardens in Nairobi on Saturday night.
The two boxers will fight on an undercard of Zambian Catherine Phiri and Kenyan Fatuma Zarika’s World Boxing Council (WBC) super bantamweight title.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe Wednesday, Bashir—who camped at Delta Force in Zimbabwe for two months ahead of the bout— vowed to claim her first-ever ABU title.
“I have good punches and I do not think she will match me in the ring. I am looking forward to a good fight and I will bring the belt to Malawi on Sunday,” said Bashir, who boasts of six victories and five losses in 11 bouts.
The Kenyan boxer’s record is five wins, three draws and two losses.
Taking his turn, Bashir’s trainer at Delta Force Academy, Clyde Msonda, said the local boxer was ready for battle.
No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions Director, Craig Rousseau, said: “I do not doubt Anisha’s skills and I know [that] she will make it this time [around].”
