Peoples Trading Centre (PTC), a subsidiary of conglomerate Press Corporation Limited (PCL) and Spar franchise holders in Malawi, says logistics are at an advanced stage for the opening of another Spar shop in Blantyre.
Peoples Marketing Manager, Chiku Kaphuka, confirmed that the shop will be located at the Northgate Shopping Mall in Blantyre.
“We are looking forward to opening this new shop which will be the third one after the City Centre shop in Lilongwe and Kudya Spar in Blantyre. The Northgate Spar will be much bigger than the Kudya Spar and customers should expect to get a superb shopping experience,” Kaphuka said.
She said as pioneers of retail marketing in the country, the Northgate Spar shop will stock various goods, including local products sourced from local farmers.
“If people want local and fresh products from our own land, then they will find all these in this shop and of course all our Spar and Peoples shops across the country,” Kaphuka said.
She said staff members have been well trained so that customers should not notice the difference from any other Spar shop across the world.
Peoples acquired the Spar franchise in 2014 and opened the City Centre shop in August 2015 which was followed by the opening of the Kudya shop a year later.
Spar is the world’s leading voluntary food retail chain and one of the most recognised grocery retail brand in the world founded by a Dutch Wholesaler, Adriaan van Well.
The business started with one Dutch store in 1932 and now comprises more than 12,000 stores in 42 countries on four continents.
As a Spar Partner, Peoples is exclusively licensed to operate the Spar brand in Malawi. By retaining local ownership, profit and economic growth are re-invested back into local communities, thereby contributing to local development.
