Flames attacking midfielder Peter Banda continues to hog the limelight in Tanzania after he was named Emirate Aluminium Simba SC Fans Player of The Month for March.

The Malawian got 61.2 percent of the total votes above Senegalese Pape Sankho, who accumulated 30.36 votes, whereas Tanzanian Shomari Kapombe got 8.36 votes

He was also nominated for the same accolade in February but lost to the then winner Kapombe.

This was Banda’s first award at the Tanzanian club after joining the team from Nyasa Big Bullets on a three-year deal.

For winning the award, the former Griffin Young Stars player will pocket two million Tanzania shillings (about K900,000).

In an interview yesterday, Banda said the award was a source of motivation.

“I want to thank all Simba fans for their support. I am really humbled. The best is yet to come from me,” Banda said.

The youngster has scored two goals and provided three assists in all competitions this season.

Flames coach Meck Mwase heaped praise on Banda.

“I am happy with his performance and I believe he will transfer his club form to the national team,” Mwase said.

Banda was included in the Malawi Under-23 provisional squad for two international matches against Kuwait and Togo but he did not travel after Simba refused to release him.

He joined Simba after spending six months on loan at Moldova side Tiraspol Sheriff where he scored seven goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions.

Banda started his career on a low in Tanzania but he has regained his form.
