At least 30 Mr Malawi Bodybuilding contestants will undergo screening this morning to be certified eligible for the event this evening.
Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (Wabam) president Arox Kamg’ona said screening bodybuilders will allow them to select only the cream to flex their muscles at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Kuhes) Sports Complex.
“Screening is a vital process where we sift bodybuilders. This allows judges to choose bodybuilders that have a well built and defined body to flex their muscles. However, we are pleased that 30 bodybuilders have registered to compete,” he said.
Kamg’ona said they have lined up different activities to make this year’s event memorable.
“We will also have a dance group and other performances to keep the patrons entertained,” he said.
Artist Piksy is expected to perform to spice up the event.
Kamg’ona hailed Old Mutual, Kips and Sports Complex for supporting his year’s competition.
This year’s champion will pocket K1.2 million cash and a year-long food voucher valued at K800,000.
However, Wabam did not release the list of bodybuilders that have registered to battle for the crown.
Sources indicated that defending champion Chisomo Kajamu will not defend the title.
However, well-known bodybuilders such as Emmanuel Muhuwa, Frazer Zeka and the People’s bodybuilder Yasin ‘Ichocho’ Suwedi have registered to compete.
Wabam General Secretary Doreen ‘Dee’ Kumbatira, who has been earmarked to also parade to woo ladies into the sport, was in South Africa and doubted if she will arrive in time to attend the event
