Renowned musician and preacher Apostle Enesia Chitheka Lewis arrived back home from South Africa on Saturday where she underwent surgery for kidney failure at Netcare Alberlito Hospital in Durban.
Chitheka said in an interview at her home on Monday that she is fine and thanked Malawians for the support they have given her.
“I am happy to be back home and I praise God for His healing mercies. I have a testimony to tell to Malawians. The infection was huge but God has been there and here I am speaking to you,” she said.
Looking energetic, Chitheka Lewis, who has spearheaded a gospel group Chitheka Family since it was started in 2001 and composed several songs, said she went to the church on Sunday where she preached.
“Malawians have been there and to them I say thank you. They have stood with me and many have been sending me messages through Facebook and Watsup just to encourage me. And again there are concerts which have been held to raise funds for my medical bills,” said Chitheka Lewis with some slight smile.
Asked if she was fit enough to go on stage, Chitheka Lewis said she was fit to perform on stage.
“Actually I am planning to have a Thanksgiving show but that will depend on money. At the moment I just have to rest and then plan for that but I just want to assure Malawians that I am fit and well and ready to perform,” she said.
Chitheka Lewis, who is the founder of Hope of Glory Church in Blantyre, which organised a show at Comesa Hall in Blantyre in June to raise funds for her medical bills, also revealed that her medical bills totalled 148,000 Rands.
“The show which people patronised in Malawi raised 32,000 Rands which squared part of the bill but I also had to borrow some money from some well wishers to clear off the amount which I am supposed to pay as a loan and I will be paying little by little so I still need help,” she said.
The gospel singer who performed one of the songs titled ‘Thandizo Langa,’ to thank God for serving her from the jaws of death left the country on April 22 and has been in South Africa receiving treatment for four months.
“I underwent surgery for three times, I could not stay at the hospital because I could not afford the bill but the medical team were very supportive throughout,” she said.
During her time in South Africa, some people asked Pastor Hastings Salange who has been showing off his wealth through the social media to assist Chitheka Lewis by paying off her medical bills.
But Salanje revealed that Chitheka Lewis was sick because she was being punished by God for snatching a husband as well as her differences with her father which led to her starting her own church.
But Chitheka Lewis reserved her comments on the issue.
“I do not want to respond to those issues, I just don’t know why they had to come up now. Only God knows the truth about all these issues otherwise I leave everything to Him and He will surely speak for me,” she said.
Before she left for South Africa, Chitheka Lewis launched a new album in January titled Yehova Nyansadabusa.
