Malawi National Football Team has received a timely boost after Apostle Clifford Kawinga of Salvation for All Ministries pledged to reward players and officials with K1 million each if they win tonight.

Kawinga will spend about K46 million on 28 Flames players, 12 technical officials and six support staff including the kit master if Malawi beats Morocco in a Round of 16 Africa Cup of Nations tie.

“I am very happy and seriously motivated to give towards this cause. This is the first time that the Flames have reached the Round of 16 stage. We, as Salvation for All Ministries, know by doing this we are not only preaching the word of God but also giving back to Malawians who support us in many ways,” Kawinga said.

The apostle, who is also a businessman, asked other individuals and organisations to support the Flames.

“Let me also take this opportunity to call on all other Malawians and companies to join hands in supporting the team to continue raising Malawi’s flag,” Kawinga said.

The apostle is also managing director for Creck Hardware, CK Unique Ceramics, CK Farms and Cold Storage, CK Properties and Shalom Private School.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Executive Member Tiya Somba Banda has called on companies and individuals who want to make pledges to go through the association’s secretariat as Kawinga has done.

“This is a timely motivation from the man of God ahead of the Morocco encounter. Having reached this stage, the players are geared to go all the way. As Fam, we sincerely thank Apostle Kawinga for the pledge, having said it is important to formalise all pledges through Fam secretariat,” Banda said.

Meanwhile, Nalipiri Eco Resort is offering full board complementary night for two people to all Flames players if they win against Morocco.

Nalipiri Lodge Manager Yvonne Masikini said they wanted to motivate the Flames to put up a spirited performance against the Atlas Lions.

“We have made the offer as one way of giving back to Malawians who support our business. We are proud of our team [The Flames] and we want to encourage them to keep winning and celebrate with them when they are back. Full board double costs K81,000 and for all 28 players it will cost us about K2,268,000,” she said.

Nalipiri Eco Resort is a tourism establishment offering services such as accommodation, restaurant, bar, conferencing facilities and outdoor events.

It is located 1.7km towards Phalombe from Chitakale Roundabout in Mulanje.
