By Khumbo Kaliwo:

Malawi Aquatic Union (Mau) has appealed for support towards its national swimming championship scheduled for African Bible College in Lilongwe this weekend.

Speaking in Lilongwe Wednesday when CDH Investment Bank handed over a donation of K2.4 million as support towards the championship, Mau General Secretary Beatrice Mkwaila said they are running against time to meet their K8.5 million budget for the event.

Mkwaila hailed CDH Investment Bank for the donation, describing it as timely.

“We are working hard to meet our target and any donation that comes our way will be very helpful. We are, therefore, very grateful for the support from CDH Investment Bank and the international swimming federation Fina.

“There is quite a lot that we need if we are to host a successful competition. That is why we are continuing to ask other well-wishers to come in and help wherever they can,” she said.

Banking Manager for CDH Investment Bank Molius Mangaawuma said the donation was aimed at promoting swimming in the country.

“We felt duty-bound to support in dressing the technical team, which will play different roles during the championship. We want to help promote sports in the country. Our hope is that this donation shall create value in elevating swimming across Malawi,” Mangaawuma said.

The championship starts Friday and ends on Saturday, with about 284 participants from eight different clubs.
