Archery David keeps Olympic dream alive

Local archery Areneo David is still confident of qualifying for 2020 Tokyo Olympics which will be held next year due to coronavirus outbreak.
David upon his return from Switzerland where he has been camping in readiness of the Olympic Games qualifiers said his ultimate mission of qualifying for the Olympics was alive and intact.
“Currently I was advised to be on self-isolation for 14- days. Thereafter I will continue with my preparations. I don’t want to get rusty. I will be training to keep my skills. I know what I should do to maintain my target. The postponement of the games to next year is just a blessing in disguise so I need to utilise this space,” he said.
David is one of the local athletes who benefited from the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship towards the Olympic Games qualifiers.
Malawi Olympic Committee (Moc) Public Relations Officer Kythrina Phiri, said David had the potential to qualify for Olympic Games having won medals in some international events.
“We will continue monitoring his training locally so that he should not lose track,” she said.
David enhanced his growing reputation when he won a gold medal during the Fita Open competition in Switzerland last year.
The 24-year-old athlete also won a silver medal in an 18m indoor championship in the same country last year.
