Art in the Park exhibition is set to return next month at Four Seasons in Lilongwe.
Veteran visual artist Nyangu Chodola, who is one of the organisers, said Tuesday that they have set May 28 to May 30 2021 for the exhibition.
“This event has been themed ‘Blossom’ since we are coming out of a bad season. This time we are looking at having more than 40 artists,” Chodola said.
He said artists have been affected by Covid and that, with cases going down, they have decided to come out.
“The last time we had Art in the Park exhibition, which was a success, was in November last year. We indicated last time that we would be holding Art in the Park twice in a year and so we want to maintain this and at the same time remain as active as possible,” Chodola said.
Having attracted 37 artists last year, Chodola said having 40 artists next month is a sign of growth although they would have wanted more.
“Having 37 artists alone last year was an achievement and then we also had female artists. We hope to do the same this time and also have more female artists,” he said.
Chodola said they would also use the platform to bring awareness to people about Covid.
He said people would to sample works such as paintings, pottery and wood carvings.
Apart from Chodola, some of the artists who exhibited their works last year included Chisomo Lifa, Andrew Missi, Jimmy Malinga, Charles Levison and Evelyn Chisambiro.
