By Rebecca Chimjeka:
The office of the Attorney General (AG) is today expected to hold a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss ways of avoiding and dealing with the post-electoral violence during demonstrations.
This comes as Supreme Court of Appeal directed AG Kalekeni Kaphale to meet with the stakeholders on the matter before deciding on his plea to stop the anti-Jane Ansah’s demonstrations.
According to a letter which The Daily Times has seen, AG has invited Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Timothy Mtambo, his deputy Gift Trapence, HRDC legal representatives, Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority Director General Godfrey Itaye and media houses such as Times to the meeting.
Kaphale is contesting that High Court Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda erred by not granting the AG an injunction against the demonstrations.
