Azam Tigers release nine players
As part of their rebuilding for next season, Azam Tigers have released nine players. The TNM Super League kicks-off on April 16.
The released players are Owen Mphasi, Anthony Kaipa, Robert Kayange, Felix Kasekera, Chifuniro Gombwa, Wongani Kachisanja, Diverson Chilemba, Nevman Mwamusamali and Fraser Menyani.
The off-loaded players have paved the way for new faces William Thole and Nixon Mwase (Mzuzu United), Alex Mkorongo (Michiru Madrid), Martin Chongwe (Nyasa United) and Chikumbutso Henderson (Mponela United).
The Kanjedza-based outfit has also lost reliable goalkeepers Nenani
Juwaya and Ernest Kakhobwe to Be Forward Wanderers and Big Bullets respectively.
Meanwhile, Tigers Team Manager, Sammy Ngwira, has justified their failure to play fellow Super League sides during the pre-season.
Ngwira said his team has several new players, who do not need to be thrown into the deep end.
“The pre-season was for our re-building exercise. We needed to see how the players can express themselves on the pitch without being under pressure to win,” Ngwira explained.
He said the team has so far played six friendly games against lower league and non-league teams, winning all of them.
Ngwira said the team was now set to test its players against tough Super League opposition when they lock horns with Red Lions this Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium.
