Azam Tigers Technical Director, Robin Alufandika, has said the team has the capacity to cope with the absence of Head Coach Gerald Phiri.
Phiri left the country yesterday to guide Flames Under-20 at this year ’s Cosafa Youth Championship in South Africa.
Alufandika, speaking soon after Tigers massacred Premier Bet Wizards 5-0 in a TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday, said he was confident that the Kau-Kau outfit will not misfire in Phiri’s absence.
He said Chikaiko Bridge, who doubles as Team Manager and Assistant Coach, will take up the role of mentoring the team.
“In Phiri’s absence, decisions will have to be made by the assistant coach and myself as the technical director,” Alufandika said.
Tigers face Mzuni in an away assignment this weekend after silencing Wizards on Saturday.
“We refuse to dwell much on the Wizards match. Yes, it was a master class performance. We pinned our opponents down throughout the match. But we should not get carried away. We have more games coming our way and we cannot afford to drop our guard,” he said.
Kau Kau humbled Wizards with goals from Luke Chima, Willy Saenda, Bright Munthali (2) and Chikumbutso Henderson.
On the other hand, the performance of Wizards goalkeeper, Francis Mkanda, aided Tigers to win with the wide margin as he was awful.
Tigers are ninth on the table with 38 points from 27 games whereas Wizards lie 13th with 26 points from 26 assignments.
