Azam Tigers’s top 4 dream much alive—Alufandika

Azam Tigers technical director, Robin Alufandika, says the team’s quest to finish among top four teams in the TNM Super League has taken the right direction.
Alufandika said his charges would surprise local soccer pundits with scintillating performances this season.
He made the remarks after Tigers overpowered Surestream FC 2-0 in a TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
The technical director said despite losing key players, including trio of Isaac Kaliati, Stanley Sanudi and Malumbo Gondwe, Tigers were still a formidable side capable of challenging for the league title and cups.
“We are still lethal. We play as a team. We don’t buy stars but we make them. We don’t rely on individuals but collective effort. Most people wrote us off but now they know that we are capable of achieving something good this season,” Alufandika said.
He also hailed new coach Gerald Phiri for his ability to analyse the game and make changes in formation and replace players to frustrate opposition.
“A coach should be able to change players during the game. So our new coach knows how to make changes in formation and when to make them,” he said.
During Saturday’s game against Surestream, Tigers opened the scoring through a Yamikani Chester header in the 55th minute before Peter Cholopi added the second four minutes before time.
