Lilongwe-based hip-hop group AziBambo will release its 13- track album titled Archives on January 31 2023.
One of the members of the group Blaq Gestapol said having dropped a number of singles; it was now time for them to give people the album.
“AziBambo is here to stay. People can tell from how we have planned our comeback. All the songs are done and we are waiting for the release day,” he said.
The group has released three singles so far and they are ‘They Don’t Wanna Stay’, ‘20 Forever’ featuring legendary hip-hop group The Nameless and ‘Money’.
Another member of the group Rappa Young O said the first two tracks were about introducing themselves as well as declaring their space in the hip-hop industry.
“Our new track ‘Money’ tackles issues everyone can resonate with. We are talking about money because we all need money for our daily survival. We are excited that the three songs have so far received an overwhelming response,” Rappa Young O said.
All the songs in the group’s album have been done in Chichewa on hardcore hip-hop beats produced by Strxxt Knawledge and Sage Poet while recording and mixing was done by Nefter.
Apart from Gestapol and Rappa Young O, the other member of AziBambo is Nematrix.
Nematrix said they assumed the name AziBambo literally translated as fathers in English.
“We are fathers in hip-hop and even on personal individual level. Our role is to provide parenting to hip-hop artists in Malawi as custodians of the genre”.
The group started after Rappa Young O featured the other members in his 2012 album Street Poet in a song titled ‘Hip-hop Renovation”.
