B1 jets in

Zambia’s artist B1, famed for hits such as Sikileti Kubedi and Chishala jetted into the country yesterday ahead of the Nkopola Summer Splash to be held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi.

The Nkopola Summer Splash spearheaded by Smooth Touch Promotions starts on Saturday through to Sunday.

B1, real name Bruce Simbwalanga, who jetted in through Chileka International Airport in Blantyre said he was excited to be in Malawi.

“Malawi is my second home as you know Zambia and Malawi are one. I enjoy performing here just like I do in Zambia. I have new songs on the ground which I will perform for the first time in Mangochi,” he said.

He said he was also looking forward to doing collaborations with the country’s artist, citing Piksy, who will also perform at the summer splash.

Meanwhile, with many of the shows being dominated by male artists, Club Amazon in Lilongwe will tomorrow play host to an all-female show which is a pre-official party for the Nkopola Summer Splash.

The organisers said yesterday that they decided to give female artists a chance to shine by organising an all-women show.

“We are actually calling it WomenpowerTainment and it is featuring female artists. This is just to show that women are also on top when it comes to art and so we will have female musicians as well as DJs showing their skills,” Godfrey Kachimanga, who is one of Smooth Touch Promotions directors, said.

The all-women show will bring on stage Zimbabwe’s Cindy, Tanzania’s Linah Sanga, Aycee James, Sangie, Taelo and DJs Naida and Bubble Gum.

“It’s an all-women show but everyone is welcome to sample the performances. B1 will also make an appearance, so it will be all great as we look forward to the summer splash,” Kachimanga said.

He said the summer splash will be an annual event as they would want to give people the much-needed entertainment.
