Stella Gwaza pocketed K100,000 after winning the 12- week Body and Lifestyle Challenge organised by B&A Gym.
The gym, owned by boxers Brian Mwando and Agness Mtimaukanena-Mwando, embarked on the project three months ago and participation was open to athletes regardless of the gym they patronise.
The challenge was taking place at Nyambadwe Hill in Blantyre every Saturday.
Gwaza said she was delighted to win and feels encouraged to continue working hard to shed more kilogrammes.
“It was a challenging task but I did it for fun as I wanted to maintain a good lifestyle,” she said.
Sphiwe Chipo finished second in the contest whereas Eliza Mnemba was third. The two were offered personal training for different durations.
Mwando said the project was aimed at encouraging people to use cheap resources at their disposal to maintain their fitness levels.
“We wanted to recognise the biggest looser [of weight]. This was done through a weigh in which involved all contestants. Weight readings were recorded during the first week and throughout the exercise up until the last day. Everyone who participated managed to lose weight and gained fitness,” he said.
Geraldine Pinto won the Most Improved Weight Loser award whereas Linda Mavutula won the Most Hard Working award.
Innscor and Metro Sports Shop sponsored the event.
Meanwhile, another eight-week challenge has commenced at Chapima Heights along Magalasi Road in Blantyre to determine those with the highest fitness level.
