Babatunde Adepoju joins South Africa club on 3-year deal

Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju has joined South Africa’s National First Division (NFD) side Venda Football Academy on a three-year deal from Nyasa Big Bullets.

Bullets released a club statement on Friday confirming the departure of the talented striker who won the golden boot award with 18 goals last season.

However, Bullets kept a tight lid on the transfer fee.

Reports indicate that Bullets will get $50,000 (about K50 million).

“The club thanks Baba for the memories and wishes him and his family well for the future,” reads part of the statement.

Adepoju joined Bullets on a three-year contract in the middle of the 2021 season from Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

The departure of Adepoju means Bullets have lost three key members of the 2022 squad after midfielder Chimwemwe Idana and striker Hassan Kajoke.

Idana left the club after failing to agree terms whereas Kajoke signed a pre-contract with Silver Strikers.

Adepoju sent a farewell message to Bullets family.

“Words fail me, it is difficult to say bye to a team I loved most and achieved a lot in a short period of time. I believe there is time for everything, and this is another time for me to say bye to Bullets family.

“To players, I will certainly miss you. To the fans, you always come to the stadium in large numbers. That noise was enough,” he said.

Babatunde scored 34 goals and provided 10 assists for Bullets in 46 appearances.

While at Bullets, the Nigerian won two TNM Super League titles, one Airtel Top 8 Cup and FDH Bank Cup. He won the Airtel Top 8 Cup golden boot award in 2021 after scoring eight goals in four matches. He also won the FDH Bank Cup golden boot award with five goals last season
