Malawi Women’s National Football Team captain Tabitha Chawinga has joined Italian Women’s Serie A football giants Inter Milan on a one-year loan deal from Chinese Women’s Super League defending champions Wuhan Jiangda.

Tabitha set the Chinese Women’s Super League alight for five years with her splendid performances and was on the wanted list of several big clubs.

The Malawian described the move as a dream-come-true.

“This is a dream move for me. It is time to face a new challenge. God has made it possible and I thank Him,” Tabitha said in a brief interview.

She was expected to complete her medical before being unveiled as an Inter player.

Over the past five years, Tabitha had been linked with several European giants including Olympic Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain Ladies.

However, the former DD Sunshine superstar kept insisting that she was happy in China.

She joins Inter just weeks after helping Wuhan win the Chinese Women’s Cup.

Her young sister, Temwa, who plays for Wuhan, was also excited with her sister’s exploits.

“Tabitha is a hard worker. She is my role model and I am always proud of her. I am sure she will perform in Italy,’’ she said.

The move will see Tabitha fulfiling her dream of playing in the Uefa Champions League.

Milan qualified for the top tier continental club competition after finishing second in the Italian Women’s League with 84 points from 34 matches, two points behind 2021 champions AC Milan Ladies.

Former Scorchers captain Linda Kasenda said it was time for Tabitha to face a new challenge.

“This is a good move for her. I am sure she will advance her career in Italy,’’ Kasenda said.

The Scorchers captain returns to Europe after starting her proffessional football career with Swedish club Krokom Dvasatt where she won the Golden Boot award after scoring 35 goals in 38 matches.

She also played for Kvarnsvedens IK in Sweden where she scored 43 goals before moving to Chinese side Jiangsu Sunning.

Last year, she linked up with Temwa at Wuhan where they helped the club to successfully defend the league title.

Born in Rumphi District, Tabitha is a proud winner of three Chinese Women’s Super League titles.

She lifted the title twice with Sunning and one while at Wuhan. This is besides her three Golden Boot awards in the Asian nation.

Tabitha is also a two-time winner of the Player-of-the- Year award in China.
