Baf releases line-up

GIANTS—Will perform on Saturday Lucius

Organisers of the Blantyre Arts Festival (Baf) have released a line-up of the artists set to perform as well as a schedule of the festival.

The festival which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary will be held at Blantyre Cultural Centre (BCC) next weekend starting on Thursday through to Sunday.

The festival is expected to be headlined by the country’s giants in the music industry – Soldier Lucius Banda and Zembani Band and Black Missionaries.

Baf Executive Director, Thom Chibambo, said Thursday they have finalized everything as regards the festival and that they are good to go come next weekend.

“We are ready, everything is in place. This is a family festival which will bring a variety of activities targeting everyone and so we call upon people to come in large numbers and be part of our 10th anniversary celebration,” Chibambo said.

The festival is this year being run under the theme Fit for Life.

According to the schedule of events, the festival is expected to start on Thursday where there will be performances by among others, Waliko Makhala, cultural dance by Baf Fit For Life Women and Girls’ Rights Project participants and short film screening of Baf 10th anniversary.

The festival will officially be opened on Friday afternoon.

This year, the festival also has a street carnival which takes place on Friday morning before the school performances and then official opening.

There will also be the Tikonzekere Art contest awards presentation on Friday.

On Saturday people will experience performances from among others, Snowden Ibbu, Agorosso, Annemarie Quinn, Golden Moon Band, Daughters Band, YDC Theatre, Young Travellers, Mtsinje Trust Theatre from Zambia and Lucius Banda.

The festival ends on Sunday with performances coming from Pachanya Band from Germany, Tudulos from Mozambique, Waliko Makhala and Black Missionaries.

“You can see from the schedule that we have a variety and there will be fun. We also have a Children’s Festival where there will be workshops and talent showcase. We also have other workshops throughout the festival and so it’s a packed programme,” Chibambo said.
