‘Ban kajoke!’

Silver Strikers coach Pieter de Jongh says striker should stop playing

Silver Strikers coach Pieter de Jongh has said it is surprising that striker Hassan Kajoke is still playing football despite being embroiled in controversy over his foiled move to Area 47.

The Dutchman was speaking to journalists in Lilongwe Thursday ahead of his team’s TNM Super League fixture against Ekwendeni Hammers in Mzuzu on Sunday.

Kajoke is at the centre of controversy after extending his contract with FCB Nyasa Bullets in March this year despite having another agreement with Silver.

De Jongh said it was not normal for a player to sign contracts with two teams.

’’How is it possible that Hassan is playing with two contracts? Silver’s board told me that he had signed a contract with us. Based on that, we selected him in our squad for the season but surprisingly he did not come,’’ he said.

In a letter dated April 28 2023, Silver referred the matter to Football Association (Fam), demanding that Kajoke should be banned with immediate effect on allegations of theft, fraud, deceit, dishonesty and bringing the game of football into disrepute.

However, Kajoke featured for Bullets in a league match against Extreme FC on April 29 in which he scored the only goal of the match.

According to Silver, Kajoke signed a three-year contract with them on January 4 this year which is running up to January 3 2026.

On the other hand, on March 21 2023 the same Kajoke signed another three-year contract with Bullets.

In addition, Silver claimed that Kajoke pocketed signing-on fees amounting to K3.5 million from the club on top of K450,000 monthly upkeep.

Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda said the matter is being handled by the Players’ Status committee.

’’All the concerned parties have been asked to provide relevant documents. The committee will decide on the matter in due course,’’ Gunda said.

This is not the first time for de Jongh to raise an issue concerning the local game.

At first, he was reluctant to release Silver players for national duty outside the Fifa International Window.

Meanwhile, Silver have demoted three players to their reserve side following their drop in form.

Times Sport has discovered that the players are striker China Chirwa, goalkeeper Charles Chisale and midfielder Philip Banda.

Silver, who finished the 2022 season without a trophy, are third on the log table with seven points following two wins and one draw.

They lie two points behind leaders Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
