Bangula Coach Richard Fosko has expressed disappointment after his side failed to reach the final of the Powerstart Tayale Top 8 Cup following their 2-1 loss to newcomers Zingwangwa United at Nsanje Community Ground on Saturday.

“It was our desire to reach the final. But we have suffered a painful loss. Nobody can be blamed because penalties are tricky. We were unlucky during open play and penalties; no wonder, we lost,” he said.

During post-match penalties, Bangula missed four with Zingwangwa missing three.

In regulation time, Bangula opened the scoring through Howa Mnchenga’s spot-kick before Mervin Suleman equalised for Zingwangwa.

Powerstart comprises top-eight teams in the (SRFA) League Premier Division (second-tier) and Division One (third-tier) has the same number.

Meanwhile, Zingwangwa, will meet the winner of the other semifinal clash between defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves and Changalume Barracks, who play at Balaka Stadium on Sunday.

Zingwangwa Coach Dida Zingwangwa said they plan to win the cup on their first attempt.

“It hasn’t been easy. To us, this is a blessing to qualify for the final on our first attempt. We are now focussing on the final,” he said.

Recently, Powertex Managing Director Itayi Chidzero, whose firm sponsors the competition, said the journey had been good so far.

“It has been excellent to see teams from Division One this time reach the semifinals. The objective is to bring up raw talent and expose it, which is happening at the moment,” he said.
