Bangwe All Stars have appointed former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC mentor Rodgers Yasin as coach with the hope of turning around their fortunes this season.
Yasin has replaced Christopher Nyambose, who resigned from his post due to poor performance of the team last month.
Following the appointment of Yasin, former Bullets and MDC United midfielder Mapopa Msukwa, who was interim coach recently, has been engaged as assistant coach in the new setup.
Bangwe President Mphatso Jika confirmed the appointments Wednesday.
“The two (Yasin and Msukwa) have enough experience to lead the team. It is our hope that they will help us to stay in the league this season,’’ Jika said.
In a separate interview, Yasin said his major task was to survive relegation.
“The team did well last season after finishing on position six in the debut season; so, we have to work harder to restore our glory. I believe this is possible if we show great character,’’ Yasin said.
The team registered their first win of the season after beating Chitipa United 3-0 at Mpira Stadium last week. Despite their first win of the season, Bangwe are still stuck in the relegation zone on position 14 with six points from nine matches.
Out of nine matches, they have lost five, drawn three and won once.
Meanwhile, Gwaza Chiniko has been appointed as technical director whereas Rashid Jumbe and White Suzumile has been appointed as goalkeepers’ trainer and team manager, respectively.
Steve Palemeza is the administration officer of the team whereas Mike Mwale is the marketing manager. Harry Hepen has been appointed as board secretary whereas Chikumbutso Mathumba will be doubling as board vice president as well as chief executive officer.
