National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc underlined its connection with the creative sector when it treated its customers to a surprise performance of Black Magical Strings yesterday at its headquarters in Blantyre.

This was part of hyping up the festive season mood and is not the first time as, last year, the bank gave its customers a festive season treat with a performance from Find Codi.

Black Magical Strings is an up-and-coming band and, armed with instruments such as violins, entertained customers with beautiful sound and their menu included Christmas carols.

NBM Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa said the bank is spreading Christmas cheer during this festive season.

“We have 12 days of Christmas, which is a corporate social investment initiative going on around, and we thought that we should extend this to our customers. We know it is a busy period; so, we wanted them to feel the joy of Christmas and to feel happy at the same time, hence bringing Black Magical Strings,” Hiwa said.

She also said that to show their love for the creative sector, they decided to use Black Magical Strings as part of supporting them.

“It has been a busy and good year for us and we look forward to closing it on a high. The bank has grown and we have extended that through different sponsorships and corporate social responsibility initiatives. We have also introduced different products to serve our customers to ensure that they bank with ease,” Hiwa said.

She also zeroed in on their support to the creative sector in the year, citing their partnership with Epic Lounge in the Kizz Daniel concert as well as releasing the ‘Feel the Greatness’ theme song featuring both old and new artists, including Soldier Lucius Banda and Ethel Kamwendo Banda.

One of NBM customers, Gift Sodzera, who is a missionary, said he enjoyed the sound by the ensemble.

“I love classical music and I commend the bank for engaging this group,” Sodzera said.
