The Bankers Association of Malawi (Bam) says its second annual conference slated for August this year will focus on finding solutions, strategies and opportunities that will help banks to thrive in a changing and challenging market.

Speaking ahead of the conference, Bam Executive Director Lyness Nkungula said there is need for banks to come up with policies that can be implemented without compromise if banking trends in the country are to change in the future.

“This is the conference to redefine the banking industry,” she said.

This will be the second annual conference for Bam to host since its establishment and is expected to be held under the theme, ‘Banking in Turbulent Times: What Does it Take to Survive’.

“We had the same theme last time and we believe challenges are still here and we would want to have solutions that will help banks sail through this turbulence,” Nkungula said.

Bam is a financial organisation whose members consist of banks and first discount houses. Its purpose is to provide a forum for the consideration of matters of policy and mutual interest concerning the activities of its members.

“Bam is there to build a banking industry that can be trusted by the general public and to drive the economy of Malawi through money business,” Nkungula said.
