Barry One teams up with K Dub Inc
Local hip-hop artist BarryOne has received a timely boost ahead of his new album launch as he has teamed up with K Dub Inc.
The company, owned by Kumbukani Mindiera and Wellington Sawasawa, has promised to support local artists.
“We want to make a difference and we believe we have the resources to make things happen. With God, we will achieve our goal of promoting music and arts in the country,” said Nelson Kumwenda who is the company’s finance manager.
Kumwenda said that although their finances were limited, they believe they have made the right investment.
“We are confident that we are using the right approach and soon we will greater heights,” he said adding that the choice of Barry was necessitated by what he has achieved and he has maintained the spotlight for years.
In an interview yesterday, Barry said this was a timely boost as he is about to launch his new album titled Maso Atseguka.
According to Barry, the involvement of K Dub Inc proves that urban music has the potential to transform the lives of young people in Malawi.
“As an artist, I am impressed that we have come a long way to make this brand of music marketable. I appreciate the support from K Dub Inc which has come at a right time,” he said.
Barry started his rap career in the late 90s with the likes of Dynamike, Dominant 1 and Incyt.
He has maintained his legacy since the release of his debut album titled Tionana in 2006 which was produced by Dynamike and the late Wisdom Chitedze.
His second album Legendary was released in 2010 and was produced by Sonye and God’s Favourite. In 2014, he released Foot Prints an album produced by Sonye, God’s Favourite, ProPee, Manje and Yesaya.
He has a long list of hits which he collaborated with a number of local acts including Ndabwera with Tay Grin, Chikondi Chathu with Ele, Ulendo with Armstrong, Kapilire with Maskal, and Automatic with Kalista.
The new album has a number of impressive songs that include Wandichotsa featuring Nepman, Tingololerana featuring Kelvin Sings, Suli Wekha featuring Saint and Ndimtsatila featuring Dan Lu.
The launch of his new album will take place on September 10 at Robins Park in Blantyre. He is expected to launch the album in Lilongwe and Mzuzu too.
