Basheer, Misanjo cleared for Friday’s Iron Fist bill
Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) has cleared boxers Anisha Basheer and Charles Misanjo to take part in the Iron Fist bill set for Robins Park on Friday.
The participation of the two was hanging in the balance after they lost in Zambia during non-title international fights.
There were contrasting reports with some indicating that they lost through retirements while others claimed it was through knock-outs.
Misanjo retired in the third round to a Congolese opponent, Mbiya Nkanku, while Basheer lost in a similar manner to Loreta Mzeya.
According to MPBCB spokesperson, Frank Chibisa, the pair was free to fight because they lost through retirement.
“If they had lost through a knockout we could not have cleared them. If a boxer loses through retirement or technical knock-out he or she can be cleared upon medical examination. We got medical reports from Zambia and we will also examine them ourselves,” he said.
